Securing Your Winter Salt Supply in Southwest Ohio (2026-2027)

How Champion keeps bulk and bagged salt moving all winter, backed by our own terminal.

Every winter, salt supply comes down to who planned ahead. The crews that lined up their material before the season keep clearing lots when a storm rolls in. The ones who waited spend that morning on the phone, hunting for product at whatever price they can find.

Here's how Champion keeps bulk and bagged salt moving through the 2026-2027 season, what your buying options are, and the dates that matter.

Quick Summary

  • Champion supplies bulk and bagged salt across Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky from its own terminal on the Ohio River in Cincinnati.

  • Bulk salt comes with four buying options, from pre-buy with guaranteed supply to in-season as-needed.

  • Bagged preseason pricing runs through September 18, 2026, with delivery by October 31, 2026.

  • Reserve your supply by calling 937-228-2730.

Southwest Ohio's Salt Supply, and Where Champion Fits

Salt is a commodity, and it moves with weather and logistics that nobody fully controls. A hard winter in one part of the country can pull supply out of another. A slow barge season on the rivers can leave terminals thin right when demand climbs. When supply tightens, the biggest, most dependable accounts get filled first, and smaller commercial buyers end up waiting.

Champion sits in a different spot. We run our own salt terminal on the Ohio River in Cincinnati and supply bulk and bagged salt across Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky. Controlling the material at the source, instead of hoping a distributor comes through, lets us guarantee supply to customers who reserve ahead.

This page is simple. Reserve early, and your salt is here when the forecast turns. Wait, and you're taking your chances with whatever the market has left.

Why Plan Your Salt Supply Now

Supply You Can Count On

Reserving your salt ahead of the season means it's set aside for you, not sold to whoever calls first during a storm. Our terminal keeps product flowing when the wider market gets tight, so a reservation with Champion actually holds.

Better Pricing When You Plan Ahead

Preseason pricing beats in-season rates, plain and simple. The customers who commit early lock in the season's best numbers. The ones ordering mid-storm pay a premium for whatever's left.

Product Advice From People Who Know Salt

Different jobs call for different products. Call the yard, and we'll help you match the right bulk or bagged salt to your lots, your equipment, and the kind of winter you're planning for.

Champion's Bulk Salt Buying Options (2026-2027 Season)

Champion carries two bulk products. Our untreated Salt handles most conditions and stays effective down to roughly 5 degrees. Our Duramelt Treated Salt is coated for colder work and stays effective down to around 20 below. Both load out of our yards, and both come from the same terminal-backed supply.

How you buy is up to you. There are four options, and the earlier you commit, the better you do.

Tier 1: Pre-Buy and Take Delivery

  • Pre-buy your tonnage and take delivery by October 31, 2026

  • Guaranteed supply at the season's best pricing

Tier 2: Pre-Buy with Free Storage

  • Pre-buy your tonnage and take delivery as needed through the season

  • Free storage on your material until March 31, 2028

  • Guaranteed supply, held for you until you need it

Tier 3: Buy-In Guarantee Program (BIG)

  • Sign a commitment for your annual tonnage and place a $20-per-ton deposit

  • Billed upon delivery, Net 15 terms

  • Store any material you don't use through March 31, 2028

Tier 4: In-Season / As-Needed

  • Quoted per ton by volume for the 2026-2027 season

  • No guarantee on volume or price

  • COD on delivery

Per-ton bulk pricing is quote-based, since it moves with tonnage and delivery terms. Call the yard, and we'll put together a number for your season.

Bagged Salt: Lock In Your Preseason Supply

Bagged salt moves on a seasonal basis. Order during the preseason window and your pallets are spoken for before the first freeze. Wait until a storm shows up on the radar, and you're competing with everyone else who waited. Champion pulls both bagged and bulk salt from its own terminal on the Ohio River in Cincinnati, so our supply holds when the market gets tight. Ordering ahead is still the smart move. Preseason pricing beats in-season rates, and it puts the product in your hands early.

"Order your bagged salt during the preseason window. We keep it stocked because we control our own supply, and the crews that plan ahead never sweat the January rush," says Matt Brun, owner of Champion Mulch & Landscape Supply.

Champion makes its own premium ice melt for the harder stretches. Quad Effect blends calcium and sodium chloride with a CMA formulation and works down to 20 below. It's the product to keep on hand when a routine melt won't cut it on the coldest nights.

Clearing Ice, Crushing Cancer

Every pink bag of Contractor's Choice Ice Melt supports Pink Ribbon Good, a nonprofit that helps families through cancer with free healthy meals, rides to treatment, house cleaning, and peer support. They give where they live, so the support raised here stays with families here. Every pink bag helps provide 500 healthy meals and 200 rides to treatment.

There's a reason our Contractor's Choice Ice Melt comes in a pink bag, and it goes past the color. Champion partners with Pink Ribbon Good, and part of every pink bag supports their work.

Coloring the salt was already the plan. Natural rock salt shifts shade depending on where it's mined, and customers notice when a bag looks different from one year to the next. Coloring it keeps the product consistent. Once pink was on the table, the rest fell into place.

"We were going to color the salt anyway to keep it consistent from year to year. Once we knew we were coloring it, going pink was easy. We get to raise some money, bring some awareness, and wherever those bags end up, they carry that with them," says Matt Brun, owner of Champion Mulch & Landscape Supply.

Pink Ribbon Good helps families through breast and gynecologic cancer with the practical things that fall apart during treatment. Free healthy meals a few times a week. Rides to and from appointments. House cleaning help and peer support from people who have been through it. The group runs on a give-where-you-live principle, so support raised in our area stays with families in our area.

"We tell every partner exactly where the money goes, down to the dime. Ten dollars provides a meal, twenty-five dollars covers a one-way ride to treatment. And because we give where we live, the support raised here stays with families here," says Cara Salazar of Pink Ribbon Good.

We call it Clearing Ice, Crushing Cancer. Buy the pink bag, clear your walks and lots with a product that works, and part of what you spend goes to neighbors who need it.

Self-Serve Salt Loading at Englewood

Storms don't wait for business hours, and starting this winter, neither does your salt supply. Champion is bringing 24/7 self-serve salt loading to our Englewood yard, built for crews that are out at 3 a.m. ahead of the morning rush.

It works in three steps. Pull up, pay at the kiosk with a card or your account login, and the salt loads into your vehicle. No waiting for the yard to open, and no loader operator to flag down. You pay for exactly what you take, priced by the pound and weighed as it loads, so there's no rounding up and no guessing.

It's set up for how crews actually run. One company account can carry a username and PIN for each driver, and the owner sees every load that goes out. All of it pulls from the same terminal-backed supply as the rest of our salt.

Self-serve loading launches at our Englewood location, 340 Main Street, this winter. Watch for it, and talk to us now if you want your account and your drivers set up before it goes live.

Champion's Strategic Advantages

Our Own Salt Terminal

Champion runs its own salt terminal on the Ohio River in Cincinnati. Controlling the material at the source, instead of waiting on an outside distributor, is the reason we can guarantee supply when the market runs short.

Three Yards Across the Region

Our yards in Dayton, Englewood, and Moraine keep product close to your jobs across Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky. Loading is set up for fast turnaround, so crews aren't burning daylight waiting on material.

A Fleet of Our Own

Champion operates its own trucking fleet. Delivery commitments don't hinge on third-party carriers, which matters most in the middle of a storm cycle when everyone needs product at once.

Serving Southwest Ohio Since 2008

Years of local winters taught us the weather patterns, the municipal requirements, and what crews actually need on the ground. That experience shapes how we stock, schedule, and deliver.

Taking Action This Preseason

Getting ahead of winter comes down to a few steps:

Know Your Numbers

Look back at what you used the last couple of seasons and plan from there. Ordering a little above your typical need builds in a cushion without tying up cash you don't have to.

Talk to Our Team

Call the yard, and we'll walk you through the bulk tiers and the bagged preseason pricing, line up your delivery, and sort out storage if you need it.

Watch the Deadlines

Bagged preseason pricing runs through September 18, 2026, with delivery by October 31. On the bulk side, Tier 1 pricing and guaranteed supply run through October 31, 2026. The earlier you commit, the stronger your position when the first storm rolls in.

Planning Ahead Pays Off

Winter is going to do what winter does. The crews that come out ahead are the ones who locked in their salt before the season turned, not the ones calling around during the first storm. Champion's own terminal and preseason programs are built so you can plan with confidence, whether you're running bulk by the truckload or stacking bagged salt on a pallet.

Reserve your bulk tonnage, lock in your bagged pricing, and let us carry the supply risk. When the forecast turns, you'll be ready to roll.

Reserve Your Salt Supply.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When do I need to order bagged salt to get preseason pricing?

A: Order by September 18, 2026, and take delivery by October 31, 2026. After September 18, bagged salt goes back to regular fall-stock pricing, so the pallet and truckload deals are worth locking in early.

Q: What are my options for buying bulk salt?

A: Four of them. Pre-buy and take delivery by October 31 for the best price, pre-buy with free storage until March 31, 2028, reserve through the Buy-In Guarantee Program with a per-ton deposit, or order in-season as needed. The earlier you commit, the better the price and the stronger your supply guarantee.

Q: How does the Buy-In Guarantee Program work?

A: You sign a commitment for your annual tonnage and place a $20-per-ton deposit. Champion stores and delivers your salt from the Cincinnati terminal, billed on delivery at Net 15. Any material you don't use stays stored for you through March 31, 2028.

Q: What's the difference between your two bulk salt products?

A: Our untreated Salt works for most winter conditions and stays effective down to about 5 degrees. Duramelt Treated Salt is coated for colder stretches and holds up to around 20 below. Crews often run untreated for routine work and keep treated on hand for the hard nights.

Q: Can homeowners buy salt, or is it just for contractors?

A: Both. Homeowners can grab a bag or two for the driveway and steps, and contractors can order by the pallet or truckload at preseason pricing. Same product, same yards.

Q: Why is one of your ice melt bags pink?

A: Our Contractor's Choice Ice Melt comes in a pink bag because Champion partners with Pink Ribbon Good, a nonprofit that helps families facing cancer with meals, rides to treatment, and other everyday support. Part of every pink bag goes to their work.

Q: What is the self-serve salt loading at Englewood?

A: It's a 24/7 loadout coming to our Englewood yard this winter. Pull up, pay at the kiosk with a card or your account login, and load without waiting for the yard to open or a loader operator. You pay by the pound for exactly what you take.

Q: Where can I pick up salt, and how far do you deliver?

A: Bulk and bagged salt load out of all three of our yards: Dayton, Englewood, and Moraine. We deliver across Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky. Call the yard for delivery terms on your order.

Q: What happens if I wait until mid-winter to buy?

A: In-season salt is available, but without a reservation there's no guaranteed supply and the cost runs higher. Reserving ahead through one of the bulk tiers is how you avoid getting caught short when a storm hits.
